Parktastic!

Funded by Manchester’s grant from the BIG Lottery Children’s Play Initiative, Parktastic is a Manchester wide play programme.

Parktastic is a Manchester wide play programme that is funded by Manchester’s grant from the BIG Lottery Children’s Play Initiative. Manchester Young Lives will be delivering the Parktastic programmes in three of the city’s six districts – Central West, Central East and Wythenshawe.

Parktastic offers a year round programme of adventurous and environmental play activities, with teams of playworkers running after school and holiday sessions in parks throughout the spring, summer and early autumn months. In winter, when dark evenings prevent children from using parks, weekend sessions run during the day and additional after school sessions on adventure playgrounds.

Parktastic sessions have started in Wythenshawe, working initially in Hollyhedge and Peel Hall Parks. We are currently recruiting playworkers for the teams in Central West and East and hope to be up and running in these districts by Easter 2008. The programme will include Barracks Street Park (Hulme), Manley Park (Whalley Range), Moss Side Park (Great Western Street), Birchfields and Platt Fields Parks (Rusholme), Debdale Park (Gorton) and Swinton Grove Park (Ardwick).

Other locations in the area are being discussed with parks managers and we hope to work closely with the Park Warden service and Friends of Parks groups in delivering the programme. Watch this website for more details of the programme. For information on Parktastic in other Manchester districts see
