Over the past month, thanks to the commitment and dedication of our staff and young people, MYL has been recognised in a series of awards events aimed to honour groups and individuals making a difference in communities across Manchester.

On the 19th of November, MYL staff and students attended Manchester City Council’s Be Proud Awards, where 5 of our Junior Playworkers were nominated for the Young Volunteer of the Year (Group) award. Rayany Mendes, Rayara Mendes, Julian Tate, Kai Tate and Keira Mckew attended the event with our CEO Paul and our Play and Youth Manager Elaine. The young people had the opportunity to get dressed up for the evening and were treated to an amazing three course dinner at the Midland Hotel in Central Manchester. Even though our Junior Playworkers didn’t win their category, they all enjoyed being recognised for their achievements and had a great time celebrating the hard work they do.

MYL staff and young people barely had time to settle from the excitement of the Be Proud Awards before they were off to the Manchester Youth Council Buzz Awards. Shortlisted in 5 categories, young people and staff from across the organisation went along to the evening to celebrate the achievements and dedication of the young people of Manchester. In an amazing recognition of their hard work,  those shortlisted from MYL won 4 of the awards they were nominated for.

Phidel Gasper-Benson (Academic Achievement) and Daniel Sellwood-Blythe (Vocational Achievement) won in their respective categories for work carried out as part of MYL’s Study Programme. Tammin Yorke-Davenport picked up the Young Volunteer Award as a result of her work in our Play and Youth provision, and the Youth Engagement Team’s ‘Engage to Succeed’ project was awarded the Most Effective Youth Group title. A special mention is also due to Raven Deal for her nomination in the Outstanding Achievement category, in recognition of her work as a student of MYL’s Independent school. In addition to this, our Youth Engagement Manager Lee Ann Igbon was recognised for her fantastic work with the Outstanding Contribution to Young People Award.

Both events were a great success and everyone at MYL would like to say a huge congratulations to all those involved.
