For over two decades, our famous play structure at The Addy Young People’s Centre has been more than just a playground.
It’s been a safe play space for confidence-building, creativity and connection for thousands of disadvantaged children and young people.
Now after 22 years of joyful wear and tear, it’s reaching the end of its useful lifespan.

Why it matters
Manchester Young Lives is a well-established charity with a 54-year history working with children and young people aged 6 to 24 in disadvantaged areas in Manchester. We work citywide engaging over 3000 children and young people across our various programmes every year.
The Addy Young People’s Centre in Wythenshawe, known as ‘The Addy’, is our busiest facility with 900 children attending every year.
At Manchester Young Lives, we believe in the power of play to change lives. It builds resilience through risk-taking, aids social skills and improves physical and mental health. When children are asked what they think is important, playing and friends are usually at the top of the list!
Free open-access adventure playgrounds are a fantastic tool for engagement, and the loss of the playground would be detrimental to Wythenshawe.
